MipTec - Best Practice in NGS

Calendar Icon 09/10/2017 - 09/13/2017      Location Icon Basel - Switzerland

The advent of inexpensive and efficient human genome sequencing has enabled thousands of cancer and rare disease sufferers to receive an accurate diagnosis, with many benefitting from precise follow-up therapeutic treatment.  The international healthcare interest to introduce a wider adoption of NGS methods in clinics is beset with hurdles – in particular around how to ensure the accuracy of data, sharing of information, and patient privacy.

The 8th annual forum will explore sample handling & processing practices to safeguard the accuracy of the data generation and analysis.  Presentations by leading clinical genomics institutes, which have implemented standard operating protocols, will be presented and discussed. The predicted tsunami of genomics data will overwhelm data analytics if data management processes are not adequately implemented. Presentations by leading authorities in database design for data sharing, interoperability and long-term protection of data privacy, will highlight the event.  A prosperous future of genomics-led precision medicine depends on our ability to implement operational standards for using NGS technologies in the clinic. Participation of all attendees in the open debate is highly encouraged with the aim to publish the proceedings of the Forum.
