  • Massachusetts General Hospital Deploys Fragment Analyzer Against Cancer

    The Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Integrated Diagnostics in Boston has been applying molecular pathology in the ongoing battle against cancer. Patients at MGH are routinely tested with advanced, specialized clinical assays to profile their tumors at the molecular level. Identification of cancer driver mutations would enable oncologists to customize treatments for their patients in a more personalized manner or to better define the patient’s disease with respect to diagnosis and/or prognosis.

    A new instrument for analyzing DNA and RNA is now advancing rice research at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Los Baños, Philippines. The Fragment AnalyzerTM instrument will help improve the genotyping of molecular markers linked to specific rice traits that can be used to breed new and better varieties, according to scientists at IRRI.

    The Institut Pasteur’s Genopole in Paris has three technological platforms, including the Genomic Platform. The activities of the Genomic Platform are mainly dedicated to the whole genome sequencing application for microbial genomes. Using the HiSeq® 2000 system and the MiSeq® system from Illumina as a next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology, the Genomic Platform carries out resequencing and de novo sequencing projects for the microbial scientific community.
