Advanced Analytical Technologies, Inc. (AATI) announced today that it has completed the merger of CombiSep, Inc., a laboratory instrumentation company also based in Ames, IA. AATI's Chief Operating Officer, Steve Lasky, will lead the combined firm as Chairman and CEO. Mark McDonald, former CEO of CombiSep, will fill the role of President and oversee all aspects of sales and marketing, both domestic and global.
"This combination strengthens our leadership role with customers and partners. Together we have the ability to further our value proposition for the life science industry and to realize our longer term nanobiosciences development projects,” Lasky said.
Mr. John Pappajohn, a key investor and AATI board member, views the merger as an indicator of the strengthening biotech industry in Iowa, stating, “This merger brings together two technology rich companies, with outstanding leadership, and positions the combined company to capitalize on an enormous opportunity for growth through market expansion.”
Based in Iowa, Advanced Analytical is a privately-held corporation that specializes in the manufacture of rapid detection and enumeration systems for biomass organisms. CombiSep, also located in Iowa, manufactures multiplexed, absorbance-based capillary electrophoresis instruments used in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries.
