I want to Improve Resolution

Typically, for fragments larger than 20,000 base pairs, resolution drops significantly and fragments begin compressing on top of each other. Only with pulsed field gel electrophoresis can large fragments be separated efficiently. For genomic DNA analysis, the key is not separation of individual fragments but assessment of extraction quality to determine DNA integrity.

The AdvanCE™ FS Nucleic Acids Analyzer has the widest separation resolution of any capillary instrument on the market. It can effectively separate large fragments (through 40,000 bp) and genomic DNA. But with the introduction of a different gel formula, it can also separate small fragments (<500 bp).

Due to high separation resolution on the AdvanCE™ FS Nucleic Acids Analyzer, the integrity of the genomic DNA is observable not as a single high molecular weight band – what you usually see with agarose gel electrophoresis – but as a broad smear which accurately shows the complete matrix of fragments present. Better resolution provides a more accurate assessment of DNA quality.

The following factors improve the resolution of genomic DNA on the AdvanCE™ FS Nucleic Acids Analyzer:

  1. Higher separation resolution of gel formulas as compared to slab gel.
  2. Use of long capillary array (80cm).
  3. Precisely controlled electrophoresis parameters.
